Today I'm turning waste into valuable decor with these stunning, high end upscale DIY home decoration ideas. Create luxurious decor for free by using discarded materials and some repurposed items you already own. I am using the paper mâché technique to accomplish this. This is a simple way to DIY affordably. So, gather all your shredded paper trash and look below to see how I achieved these beautiful home decor pieces.

Xtra Large Decorative Bowl

Step 1: Use up-cycled paper from a phone book directory to cut strips of paper.

Step 2: Blow up a large balloon and tie off the end.

Step 3: Combine flour, water, and glue to create a hardening mixture and stir well. I chose to optionally include some wood filler and spackling compound to make it more durable.

Step 4: Dip strips of cut paper into the mixture and smooth off any excess. Apply the coated strips to the balloon.

Step 5: Allow the strips of paper attached to the balloon to dry and harden overnight or for at least 24hrs.

Step 6: Pop the balloon after the paper has hardened.

Step 7: Create another mixture known as paper mache clay. Combine shredded paper, boiled hot water, flour, and glue. Mix all the ingredients together and apply to the exterior of the formed bowl. I found that boiling the water helps to break down the shredded paper faster.

Step 8: Apply paper mache clay to the inside and the edges of the bowl.

Step 1: Apply strips of paper mache to cover one half of an inflated balloon. Make sure to smooth off and remove any excess liquid from the paper strips.

ree

Step 2: Attach an empty toilet paper roll to the base of the paper strips. Then, add more paper mache strips around the toilet paper roll.

ree

Step 3: Add paper mache clay to the outside of the bowl and allow to dry for over 24hrs.

Step 4: Apply some of the paper mache clay smoothly to the entire inside of the bowl and along the edges.
