Looking for an easy way to add a high-end, handmade touch to your home? These DIY paper mâché bowls are the perfect project! In this tutorial, I’ll show you how to create your own decorative bowls, with simple steps that make this project perfect for beginners.
To complete the look, I’m also adding DIY marble pear decor as decorative filler. Together, these pieces create a beautiful, collected look that can easily be styled on a coffee table, shelf, console, or dining table. Explore below to learn how each decor piece is made!
Archaeological-Look Decor Bowls
Materials
Balloons
Newspaper or Yellow Pages Book
All Purpose Flour
Glue
Water
Coffee Filters
Step 1: Grab a pack of coffee filters from the store.
Step 2: Combine flour, glue, and water in a bowl.
Step 3: Blow up a medium or large balloon.
Step 4: Dip and coat sheets of coffee filters into the mixture. Then, remove any excess.
Step 5: Arrange coffee filters around the upper half of the balloon to form a semi-circle that shapes the bowl.
Step 6. Let the filters dry for 24 hours.
Step 7: Next, prepare another mixture consisting of a layer of water-soaked coffee filters, flour, and glue.
Step 8: Add a small amount of boiling water to dissolve the filters and form a paste.
Step 9: Apply the paste to cover the dried filters completely. Once covered, let the paste dry for 24 hours.
Step 10: Pop the balloon.
Step 11: Thoroughly cover the interior of the bowl and its edges with the paste mixture. Then, allow it to dry for 24 hours.
Marble Pear Decor
Materials:
Faux Pears
Acrylic Paint
Spray Paint
Paint Brush
Step 1: Grab a package of faux pears from the craft store.
Step 2: Gather faux pears, paint brush, acrylic paint and spray paint for this decor.
Step 3: Coat the faux pears with several layers of white acrylic paint. Allow it to dry.
Step 4: Fill a bowl with water and add some spray paint to it. Submerge the pear in the water tinted with spray paint.
Step 5: Cover the whole pear. Repeat this process with any other pears and vary the colors.
