Summer Summer Time: DIY Outdoor Pillows!

Updated: Oct 28, 2022

Have you ever wondered how to achieve the designer look of top end home décor stores using simple and inexpensive materials? This project is great example of creating a colorful textured outdoor/indoor throw pillow using yarn. I love the contrast between the layered fringe throw pillow and the polka dot tassel throw pillow paired together. You can make a whole set of vibrant pillows using a little time and effort. You’re going to love the results! And better yet…. it was made by you :) This do it yourself project will have any living room or outdoor space popping with color and fun!

Materials
  • Yarn

  • Glue Gun and Glue Sticks

  • Scissors

  • Medium-Sized Book

  • Medium-Sized paintbrush(or something to wrap yarn around for Pom Poms)

  • Pillow covers (or cover over existing plain pillows)

First

Start by wrapping yarn around the width of a rectangle style object. In this case... I used a medium-sized book and wrapped yarn around the width of the book about twenty times.

Second

I cut the yarn on width end of the book after I accumulated a decent amount of wrapped yarn.

Third

Use the individual pieces of yarn to attach to a single cut piece of yarn that stretches the entire width of the pillow that is being covered. I closely loop-hooked each individual piece of yarn to the single piece of yarn. I pulled the knot-like loops tightly to ensure they were secure.

Fourth

I created six individual lines of loop-hooked yarn and adjusted them on the pillow in rows on top of one another. I used a glue gun to adhere the rows of yarn to the pillow.

Finally

Adhere the individual pom poms to the pillow using a glue gun.
